CAB Promotes Bicycle Education

This course is designed to give beginning as well as more experienced cyclists the training they need to ride safely and legally in traffic and on trails. The course covers bicycle safety checks, fixing a flat, on-bike skills, riding in traffic, and crash avoidance techniques. It also includes a free student manual. We will send you the manual when you register for the course. Recommended for adults aged sixteen and above, this course prepares cyclists for a full understanding of vehicular cycling. This course is also required for those wishing to become instructors themselves. 

The class consists of two segments, an online portion that must be completed before class, and a morning of non-strenuous drills on a parking lot followed by a slow group ride on city streets. Students will be graded and awarded a certificate on the basis of their on-bike performance as well as the results of the online exam.

The online portion of the course is found by going to The League of American Bicyclists website, specifically:

The Basic, Intermediate and Advanced modules are required, and the online exam must be passed with an 85% or above. 

 Registration must be done at least one week before the class begins to have time to mail you the student manual and for you to complete the online portion. Cost of the course is $20. Students, CAB and BPAB Board members, and civil servants may take the course for free. Conway Advocates for Bicycling will retain all such revenue. Encourage your friends and acquaintances to register for the course by contacting Peter Mehl,   Smart Cycle Complete classes will be regularly offered on a Saturday in the fall and in the spring.

To take the course a person must have a bike helmet and a reliable, working bicycle that he or she already knows how to ride. Also, a cyclist must be at least 16 years old.
