A Smart Cycling Traffic Skills 101 class

Conway Traffic Skills 101
This six-hour course is designed to give beginning as well as more experienced cyclists the training they need to ride safely and legally in traffic and on trails. The course covers bicycle safety checks, fixing a flat, on-bike skills, and crash avoidance techniques. It also includes a free student manual. Recommended for adults aged sixteen and above, this fast-paced course prepares cyclists for a full understanding of vehicular cycling. This course is also required for those wishing to become instructors themselves. The class consists of two segments with a lunch break between: three hours of classroom instruction and three hours of non-strenuous drills on a parking lot followed by a slow group ride on city streets. Students will be graded and awarded a certificate on the basis of their on-bike performance as well as a written exam. Traffic Skills 101 classes will be regularly offered on a Saturday in the fall and in the spring, 9:00am to 4:00pm.  Early registration at least one week before the classes begin is $20, but $30 after that. Pay on site or online. Students, CAB and BPAB Board members, and civil servants may take the course for free or at reduced rates. Conway Advocates for Bicycling will retain all such revenue. Encourage your friends and acquaintances to register for the course by contacting Jim Bruce at

To take the course a person must have a bike helmet and a reliable,
working bicycle that he or she already knows how to ride. Also, a
cyclist must be at least 16 years old.
