Free Bicycles to University of Arkansas Students

The Arkansas Times is reporting that the University of Arkansas is starting a program where they lend bicycles to students. This would be a great initiative for all of our colleges to undertake as well. Is there anybody out there willing to take this on?
The bikes do not have to be anything special, they just need to work. I for one would be willing to help hunt down bikes and make repairs. I have too many other irons in the fire to take all of this on though. Thoughts? Ideas? Leave them in a comment so we can discuss.

Bikes at Hendrix
I think that Joe Muller (Hendrix student) has been involved with that at Hendrix, and is interested in our group. He is however out of town for the summer, but will likely take it up again when he returns.

UCA bikes
this may very well just be a rumor, but I've been told that the UCA Physical Plant has a lot of bikes in storage, left over from the end of the year when they cut the chains and take them in. friends have told me you can get a free bike by going there and picking one and telling them it's yours...it seems dishonest to me to do it that way, but maybe if there are enough of them someone could convince the UCA administration to give them away rather than letting them rust in a storage room somewhere?
I'm not sure how many there are, if the story is still true, or if it was ever true to begin with, but it might be worth looking into.

I have a few connections over there. I will see what I can find out. Even if there was a small fee attached to them it would be a good start for beginning a program.

Rumor is True
I checked and the rumor appears to be true. After the start of the school year dies down I will check with them and see what they plan on doing with whatever bicycles they have. If I can manage it I will see if we can refurb the bicycles and get this program started.
