On August 12 at 5:30 the City Council of Conway will consider two important resolutions proposed by Mayor Tab Townsell. Mayor Townsell proposes that the city's portion of the projected revenue from the natural gas severance tax (estimated to be at least $236,488 for Conway in 2009) be dedicated to developing, operating and maintaining means of alternative transportation, including but not limited to sidewalks, bike routes, trails and public transit. The second resolution will propose that Conway use these funds to put a special effort into becoming an Bicycle-Friendly Community, an official designation of the American League of Bicyclists. Becoming such a community involves developing a master bicycle plan, with designated routes, trials, law enforcement and educational efforts.
Both these resolutions constitute a far-reaching sustainable vision for Conway by Mayor Townsell.
Please attend and show your support for these progressive initiatives by our Mayor. The Council meets at the Conway Distinct Court, 810 Parkway; city council committee meets at 5:30, regular city council meets at 6:30.
