Progressive Move by the City Government

First off, a big thank you to everybody that came to the city council meeting last night. The support for the bicycle initiatives was overwhelming. Secondly, both initiatives passed with a 6-0 unanimous decision.

The first measure means all of the severance tax money the city will receive ($230,000 next year, up to $450,000 in years to come) will be solely spent on alternate means of transportation, including bicycle infrastructure. The city has acknowledged this is not enough money to do what needs to be done, but it is a good start.

The other initiative gives Mayor Townsell the permission to pursue having Conway listed as a Bicycle Friendly Community. This is going to be a long process and take tons of man hours and resources before it will become a reality. However, this is a huge first step.

I would personally like to applaud Mayor Townsell and the City Council for these progressive moves.

Thank you Conway!

I was overwhelmed by the amount of support expressed for these measures last night. I really thought *somebody* would have some opposition for them and was very surprised of the universal support. Now the real fun begins :-)
